Weekly Reading for Christian Culture Warriors: Focus on the Genocide Olympics.      

Each week, I recommend readings from around the Internet for Christian culture warriors living amid an increasingly hostile culture. This week, several recommended articles address the Beijing Olympics, a.k.a. the Genocide Olympics, as I refer to them in this post.

My mission is to provide help and encouragement to live out our faith amidst the moral decline of our culture. Challenges to religious freedom, free speech, biblical morality, innocent and defenseless human life continue unabated. And we can’t ignore how the Genocide Olympics from Beijing illustrate how the free world turns a blind eye to Chinese human rights atrocities.

But do not despair. Standing firmly on the Word of God, we can resist evil and shine as lights, offering hope to a darkened world.

A Disturbing Personal Observation

Yesterday, I was at a church meeting. I mentioned that viewership of the Beijing Olympics was down at least 43% from the previous games. Several people commented:

• Ratings are down because NBC’s broadcast timing is bad.
• I watched this and that event.
• I would have watched that event, but it was on too late.

No one mentioned the multiple calls to boycott the Genocide Olympics.

Several didn’t know about the atrocities committed by China and how that was affecting viewership.

The people who made these comments are all faithful Christians and my friends. No one would condone the human rights violations of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) if they understood what was happening.

It is astonishing how little they know about what is happening in China. But that is not uncommon for many Americans. This is especially true if they get their news from CNN and the liberal mainstream networks.

Corporate America Caves to China. Main Street America Must Not

Above, I cited the plummeting TV ratings for the Genocide Olympics. This is not good news for NBC and the companies of corporate America who have bowed their knee to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party).

Why the plummeting ratings? Because a different kind of agony is upstaging these competitions, which have been dubbed “The Genocide Games.” Many Americans are appalled by the Chinese government’s horrifying abuse of more than a million Uyghur Muslims, innocent victims who are being tortured, raped, sterilized, and murdered in Xinjiang, China’s massive complex of genocidal concentration camps.

Corporate America, always seeking more profitable markets, compromised their values and made China it their darling. But the results they sought are not forthcoming.

One primary reason for the shocking compromise of American values is China’s “Most Favored Nation” status, which has generated a corporate rush into trade opportunities. The traditional thinking went that if corporate America did business with China, they would eventually adopt American principles. Instead, the reverse is happening.

The Olympics Shouldn’t Be the Propaganda Win China Wants

For the Chinese Government and its controller, the CCP, the Genocide Olympics, held in Beijing, are an unprecedented opportunity for propaganda. The entire world is watching (though not as many as NBC needs to fill its coffers). But China is doing its best to exploit the games to their advantage.

Efforts to confuse and obscure China’s human rights conditions via the Olympic spotlight are well underway. During the opening ceremony, a Chinese athlete of Uyghur descent was chosen to light the Olympic cauldron. While positioning China as a diverse country, leaders divert attention from the forced sterilization of thousands of Uyghur women in Xinjiang and cruel forced abortions that warrant the term “genocide.” More than a million Uyghur people are detained in internment camps, sometimes experiencing torture, rape, medical experimentation, and forced labor.

Christians are among those persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party.

China regards Christianity as a Western religion and therefore sees it as a threat. In some parts of the country, churches have been demolished or had their crosses removed. During the pandemic, there were reports of Zoom church services being disrupted.

As the Olympics approach, Chinese Communist Party leaders are proving why it should not be treated just like any other country. What reasonable or just society places so much pressure on a church that the congregation flees together? Instead of puff pieces on impressive Chinese architecture or achievements, NBC and other media coverage should ask serious questions about the human rights situation in China and the ability of average Chinese citizens to practice their faith. The world needs to know. I know there is a group of Chinese believers in South Korea that would love to tell their story.

The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games officially began on Feb. 4, 2022. My wife Marsha and I have always enjoyed watching the Olympics, marveling over the accomplishments of the athletes. Marsha especially likes figure skating and ice dancing events, while I my favorites are skiing and ice hockey. But in 2022 we won’t watch the Beijing Olympics. Under Biden Proposal, Kids Could More Easily Get Transgender Surgery

This is just plain sick! How far will the Biden administration go to suck up to LBGTQ activists? I guess even at the expense of our children.

The Biden administration is pushing for more insurers, and thus anyone who buys their insurance, to cover transgender surgeries. Such genital, breast, and facial surgery, as well as hormone therapy and more, would be considered “medically necessary” for those wishing to identify with the other sex.

The rule appears to offer no exclusion for children, Roger Severino, a senior fellow at the EPPC, told The Federalist. It would “put kids on a transgender treadmill and they don’t get off,” Severino said. Children could take puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones only to regret it later when they have damaged their bodies and may find they are infertile, he said.

Indeed, the rule offers legal cover to “those experimenting on these kids,” according to Severino, who was the director of the HHS Office for Civil Rights during the Trump administration. By requiring insurers to cover such surgeries, the rule will make it much harder for adolescents to sue later, he said.

My friend told me that pastors in five different churches in the southern region of his state reported at the conference the same phenomenon. They have had strangers come and join their congregations, and six months or so later, come out as transgender, and demand their rights as official members of the congregation. It has happened to so many of these churches, in the same period of time, that they believe it is part of a concerted effort to undermine those churches. I don’t have permission to give identifying details of the denomination and the particular state, but my friend told me that there is serious concern among the denomination’s lawyers that these undercover trans activists have found a legal way to force these congregations to capitulate on trans issues, or face ruinous lawsuits.

Congress Should Respect Human Rights; The ‘Global Respect Act’ Doesn’t

Our Congress is considering some harmful “world government” type legislation. We should have no part in this travesty of justice.

The U.S. House of Representatives could soon consider the Global Respect Act (H.R. 3485). Although the title sounds benign, this bill would harm U.S. foreign policy by inserting a radical gender ideology into America’s human rights efforts.

The Global Respect Act would enable visa bans against foreign individuals accused of violating the human rights of LGBT-identifying persons and require additional reporting on the status of human rights for LGBT-identifying persons. It would also require the U.S. State Department to designate a senior officer to track violence and discrimination against LGBT-identifying individuals abroad.

Not only is this bill unnecessary, but more importantly, it will inevitably derail the protection of foundational human rights with which these new “rights” will be seen to conflict.

This is shocking! How would you respond if police barged into the middle of a worship service at your church to make sure everyone was wearing a mask? This is the thing we expect from a totalitarian government like China or Russia.

But this happened in Australia, a democracy like the United States. Australia is a long way away, but don’t kid yourself. It has almost happened here and still could.

Worshippers at a church in Perth, Australia, were flabbergasted when police officers interrupted their service to see who was — and wasn’t — wearing masks.

One parishioner at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Mount Hawthorn named Matthew told local media it was “troubling” to see a police officer interrupt the worship service last Thursday evening, according to The Chronicle. In a separate interview with a radio station, he said everyone in the church was “pretty surprised” by the interruption and found it “pretty confronting.”
