Culture War

Culture War News of the Week

As the culture continues to grow increasingly hostile to biblical morality and the Christian faith. All engaged in the culture war need to know the latest from the front. That is the purpose of these weekly posts.

My mission is to provide help and encouragement to live out our faith amidst the moral decline of our culture. Challenges to religious freedom, free speech, biblical morality, innocent and defenseless human life continue unabated.

Do not be afraid. Standing firmly on the Word of God, we can resist evil and offer hope to a darkened world.

BREAKING: DHS to Create De facto ‘Ministry of Truth’

This culture war tactic is straight out of George Orwell’s 1984. But it comes as no surprise given the Biden Administration’s track record. I will post about this development in more detail later this week.

The Department of Homeland Security is instituting a de facto “Ministry of Truth.” “DHS is standing up a new Disinformation Governance Board to coordinate countering misinformation related to homeland security, focused specifically on irregular migration and Russia,” Politico reports.

Nina Jankowicz will head the board as executive director.

Ms. Jankowicz says her new job will primarily focus on “protecting free speech, privacy, civil rights, & civil liberties.”

In other words, conservatives can expect for their free speech, privacy and civil liberties to be curtailed.

University to Pay $400,000 to Professor Punished for Refusing to Use Student’s Preferred Pronouns

Definitely some good news for religious freedom in our LBGTQ crazed culture. A win for the good guys in the culture war.

Shawnee State University in Ohio has reached a settlement with a professor whom it punished for refusing to use a transgender student’s preferred pronouns, according to a new report.

The university will pay philosophy professor Nick Meriwether $400,000 in damages and attorney fees and will rescind a written warning it issued to Meriwether in June 2018 in response to a biological male student’s complaint that the professor refused to use female pronouns for the student, Fox News reported.

The professor argued that obliging the student’s requests would violate his own convictions as a Christian. When the professor declined to use female pronouns, the student became belligerent and told Meriwether he would be fired.

Meriwether then sued the university, arguing that it violated his “right to free exercise of religion under the First Amendment.”

Diversity, Free Speech, and the ‘Woke’ Assault on America

Understanding the “Woke” assault on our nation is key to understanding the culture war we are engaged in. This article takes a hard look at this attack.

We are clearly living in Orwellian times, when the ambitions of tyrannical power are camouflaged by debased language, incoherent thought, and patent double-standards. Like the Newspeak of 1984, our progressive media abuses words like “diversity” and “free speech” to make them mean their opposites: a uniform orthodoxy protected and enforced by censorship. As long ago as Thucydides, this abuse of language and thought was recognized as the enemy of freedom and the precursor of a tyranny that reduces the diversity of opinion and ideas into one monolithic, oppressive dogma.

The Supreme Court Has an Opportunity to Affirm the Religious Liberty of Our Founding | American Center for Law and Justice

How the Supreme Court rules in the religious liberty case of coach Joe Kennedy could be another culture war victory.

The American Humanist Association has represented a shift away from the flawed jurisprudence of recent decades. Now, the Supreme Court has a tremendous to keep correcting course with Kennedy v. Bremerton School District.

The facts of the case are simple – a high school football coach, Joe Kennedy, would take time to pray at the 50-yard line following each game, win or lose. The school forbid him from doing so because it worried Kennedy’s prayers could be perceived as the school’s endorsement of religion in violation of the Establishment Clause under Supreme Court case law.

Such reasoning is nonsense – nobody can seriously argue that a quiet, personal prayer after a game is over constitutes religious coercion or the establishment of a state religion. There is a clear difference between religious expression and religious coercion, and reasonable people across America know this.

The school board’s reaction to these events, and its hostility to any form of religious expression, is just one example of a broader problem America has allowed to fester for decades. The conflation of religious expression with government interference with religion must end, and we need to scrap the current warped understanding of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

Is ‘Woke’ to Be the Only Religion Allowed in US Public Schools?

Despite what many school officials want us to believe, the culture war is raging in our public schools.

Over the past 60 years, public schools have been scrubbed of religion, stripped bare in the name of the US Constitution’s establishment clause, which bars favoring one religion over others. Now the void is being filled by social-justice ideology, the left’s religion by another name.

Why should traditional religion be discriminated against while teachers and coaches are allowed to proselytize their woke belief system, displaying gay-pride symbols and Black Lives Matter slogans in the classroom? Are children any less at risk of coercion or indoctrination by these ideas presented by authority figures whom they’re eager to please?

Win the Culture War by Shrinking the Government

Read the article to see why this makes sense.

The mask requirements at our schools, airports, and retail stores are set by unelected federal bureaucrats. The Pentagon worries about diversity and equity more than it worries about the crumbling state of our armed forces. The White House talks openly about fighting states that try to ban the practice of putting gender-confused preteens on puberty blockers.

If you think those actions are bad, get a load of the government’s nonactions. The FBI ignores those responsible for burning and rioting in major cities so it can focus on grandmothers who waved flags at the Capitol on Jan. 6. The White House has purposefully decided not to enforce our southern border. Officials talk openly about making us pay more for gas to pressure us into buying an electric car.

How did we reach a point where most economic and lifestyle decisions we make are so heavily influenced and even dictated by the government? One big reason is the government has the manpower to develop and carry out these ideas, while the rest of us have to work so we can afford to pay millions of these “public servants” to torture us.

Well-Known Christian Website in China Closes Permanently

Clearly a chilling reminder of the ongoing religious persecution in China. It is also a reminder to us that our religious freedom is a target in the culture war.

04/29/2022 China (International Christian Concern)—A Christian website in China with more than 20 years of history has ceased to exist recently amid the ongoing crackdown against Christianity in cyberspace.

On March 1, the Chinese government officially placed a ban on unauthorized online religious activities. Any religious group seeking to conduct religious activities online cannot do so without obtaining a license issued by the government. Even before the ban was put in place, Bible Apps and many Christian WeChat accounts have been shut down in China.

Analysis | How Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Wages His Culture Wars

DeSantis is smart, has guts, and we can learn from him.

Perhaps no politician has been as effective at waging today’s culture wars as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

As he prepares for a reelection campaign, this November — and a potential 2024 presidential run — he has recently signed legislation banning critical race theory, certain LGBTQ teachings or conversations in schools, and abortions after 15 weeks without exceptions for rape or incest. He’s punished Disney for opposing some of this legislation. On Monday, he also signed a law creating the nation’s first election police force.

This is all happening in Florida, a state that’s closely divided between Republicans and Democrats. But while controversial, many of his stances seem to resonate with some mainstream voters. DeSantis’s approval ratings are actually in the mid-50s, and he looks in a strong position to win reelection in November.

The Left Is United by Who They Despise, Not What They Support

This article presents an interesting analysis of how the left’s scapegoating tactics to unite different factions.

The terms for the regime’s scapegoats are many. Hostility for the “deplorables,” the sexists and the racists, the rednecks and the retrogrades, the bigots, the “karens” and all different stripes of -phobes, is what holds together such a fragile coalition. Party operatives blame their internal conflicts on those who are regarded as the oppressors and pit Americans against one another. The terms differ but serve the same purpose: to designate a scapegoat as a regime-approved target.

I’m proud to be a member of the “deplorables.”

Reporting on the culture war requires addressing some hard issues. For a change, this essay is a bit of humorous satire, albeit at the expense of the Trans agenda. Read and enjoy.

These features and more can save millions of keystrokes over the angry, resentful lifetimes of engaged, enraged leftists.

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, (2 Corinthians 10:3–5 ESV)
