Good News from God’s Word.

This is the day which the Lord has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)

God’s Word for Today

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Philippians 4:4–6 ESV)

Why Jesus Doesn’t Fix It

Evangelical Christians [and many Atheists] tend to expect God to make everything better. Evangelicals cling to the hope that one day [soon?] Jesus will return to fix everything. Atheists have given up that hope and use God’s lack of intervention as proof that God isn’t real.

Either way, you end up with a situation where God either fixes all the suffering and pain in our World, or no one does.

But, consider this. Jesus could turn stones into bread and make sure no one was ever hungry again. But then we’d still live in a world where people had too much food and no reason to share with those who had nothing.

Hint: You need to read the rest of this short column to understand the powerful message the author is sending to us Christians.

What Does the Bible Say About Our Thoughts?

What does the Bible say about our thoughts? Can we control them or are there other influences which affect our thoughts?

We do not live in a neutral world. Our minds are held captive by something…or better yet, someone. They are held captive by someone we might not even believe in, but the Bible tells us who it is behind our thought life.

Believer, You Are a Romans 7:25 Christian

25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature, a slave to the law of sin. (Romans 7:25 ESV)

In short, this is Paul’s doctrine of simul iustus et peccator (at the same time, righteous and sinner).

10 Things I Want for My Adult Children That God Wants Too

I’ve been wanting things for my kids since before they were born.

Now, my children are a teen and a young adult, and I want things for them in keeping with the new seasons of life they’re stepping into. This is where things get tricky, though, because while I know better than to want things for them, God is clearly against, I do want some things for them He calls good—but maybe not good for them.

8 Prayers for When You Can’t Sleep

Scripture based prayers you may want to keep by your bedside.

Creation as Gift—Revealing the Imago Dei

The observation of almost any child reveals the natural creativity of the human being. Creativity reflects the image of God present in every human at conception. Creation is both an act of self-revelation and of self-giving. What we create, whether it is a poem, a painting, an essay, or a piece of woodwork, reveals a great deal about its maker. And, while someone trapped in narcissism may create for their own pleasure, healthy people create things to be shared with others.

25 Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, 26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith—27 to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen. (Romans 16:25–27 ESV)
