Every week, I offer a curated selection of articles and posts of interest to Christians living in a hostile world. I hope to provide you with information that helps you stand firm in the faith as the culture wars raging around us. Below you will find suggested readings from around the internet for Christian Culture Warriors.

This week I highlight several posts addressing attacks on freedom of religion.

Quebec Shows How Fortunate U.S. Is to Have Religious Freedom

Our Canadian neighbors are rapidly attacking religious freedom. So far, this extremism does not touch us. But it could well happen in the U.S.

In Quebec, discrimination against people of faith is not only real but is mandated by the government.

The Canadian province’s Bill 21 has been the subject of a lot of controversies. The law bans all public employees in the province, including teachers, from wearing religious symbols at work. That includes the crucifix, kippahs, turbans, hijabs, and more.

It’s part of Quebec’s secularist approach to governance, and it’s a gross violation of religious freedom and a reminder of why Americans should be thankful to have freedom of religion.

The law is a blatant form of discrimination against people of faith. Whether someone is Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, or practices a different religion, he or she should have the right to practice that faith how he or she sees fit as long as it is not hurting other people.

Swedes Are Implanting Microchip Vaccine Passports. It Won’t Stop There

I don’t subscribe to Dispensationalism’s premillennial eschatology, so I don’t see that in this report. However, this is a clear warning to all of us about how our freedoms can erode.

While I doubt any population will be forcibly chipped like wayward housecats—at least not in the near future—no nightmarish policy is truly off the table. In the past 21 months, the United States has seen mandated mRNA gene therapies, QR code-based vaccine passports, mass deletion of supposed “misinformation,” and even drone surveillance to monitor social distancing.

Unauthorized Online Religious Activities to Be Banned in China

This is not surprising, as China is increasing its restriction of religious freedom. We can never forget that religious belief threatens Communist authoritarian regimes.

Pastor Zheng Leguo, a U.S.-based house church leader originally from China’s Wenzhou, told ICC, “The new measures, in actuality, are banning all forms of religious activities. There used to be some space for Sunday services and Bible study to be held online, especially since after the pandemic took place, the state has banned in-person gathering for churches, so Christians began to meet virtually instead.”

Sen. Cruz Leads Amicus Brief for Service Members Seeking Religious Exemption from President Biden’s Covid Vaccine Mandate

On our own soil, religious freedom is being denied to members of our armed services.

The service members argue that both the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) and the First Amendment require the federal government to allow exemptions for their sincerely held religious beliefs, especially since they are willing to take other precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in lieu of vaccination and the Navy is already allowing medical exemptions.

New York to Consider Bill Allowing Extrajudicial Detention in Health Emergency

While broader than an attack on freedom of religion, this legislation, if passed, will curtail the freedom the U.S. Constitution guarantees us.

The New York State Legislature will soon consider a bill that would allow the governor to detain people without a court hearing or an immediate right to a lawyer in a state of emergency declared because of communicable diseases.

North Carolina Sheriff Refuses to Take Down Bible Verse in Office, Says He Is ‘Afraid of Burning in Hell’

This attempt by the Freedom from Religion Foundation may not register as a large-scale attack on religious freedom, but it represents the incremental, every day attempts to rob us of the right to practice our faith in the public square.

A North Carolina sheriff said he “will not waiver” after the Freedom from Religion Foundation requested he remove a Bible quote from a wall located inside the government office.

The quote– “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13.”–can be seen in numerous photos shared on the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page.
