Weekly Reading for Christains Engaged in the Culture Wars

We must stand firm in the continuing culture wars.

Every week I will offer a curated selection of articles and posts of interest to Christians loving God with all their minds in a hostile society. We must stand firm in the continuing culture wars.

New Religions of Wokeness, Nationalism Filling Faith Vacuum?

The false teaching of “woke” Christianity.

The social justice crusade is a kind of Christian heresy… because on the one hand the social justice warrior has certainly got the moral ire of the Old Testament prophet… But what they lack is a Christian sense of compassion for weak, feeble humanity, [that] we’re all crooked and this sense that the line between good and evil runs right down the middle of every one of us.

The Inherent Fraud of ‘The 1619 Project’

This post by Jeff Lewis surveys several events in American history that are ignored by the much lauded, but fraudulent “1619 Project.”

The point is to highlight what many other, much more studied, credentialed, and prominent historians have pointed out: the “1619 Project” is not an honest study of history. It presents a grossly inaccurate, incomplete, and biased history.

Texas House Passes Bill Banning Students from Competing against Opposite Sex in Sports

Common sense prevails in the Lone Star State.

“This is about protecting the 332,000 girls 7th through 8th grade playing UIL sports in the state of Texas,” Swanson said during floor debate on the measure. “No matter how much a biological male takes suppression hormones they still have a tremendous advantage.”

Joe Biden’s Court-Packing Commission Tries to Have It Both Ways

It should not be a surprise that the Biden Administration continues to cave into the radical left-wing of the Democrat Party.

Joe Biden’s Presidential Commission on the Supreme Court of the United States exists solely for reasons of cynical political strategy.

During the heat of the 2020 presidential campaign, Biden promised that if elected, he would study proposals to pack the Supreme Court.

He did so as a dodge: endorsing Court-packing would be radical, unpopular, and inconsistent with his own strongly stated prior positions.

But foreclosing the issue would depress progressive activists; it would also deprive Biden of a weapon with which to threaten the Court in order to intimidate the justices from standing impartially for the rule of written law.

What the commission says or does is therefore far less important than the very fact that it exists.

The Trans War on Children

Adult activists pushing their radical ideologies on innocent children have a lot to answer for. Children should be allowed to be children, but today they are in the cross-hairs as everything is being politicised, including medicine and science. This is certainly being played out in the trans war on children.

Cherry-picking the Bible and using verses out of context isn’t a practice confined to those opposed to vaccines – it has been done for centuries

“A devout evangelical Christian friend of mine recently texted to explain why he was not getting the COVID-19 Vaccine. “Jesus went around healing lepers and touched them without fear of getting leprosy,” he said.

This statement by John Fea’s friend is scary. And not only because he is misusing Scripture to justify his choice not to be vaccinated. As Fea’s article shows, taking Bible verses out of context is a practice leading to heretical teaching, birthing cults, and more.

Fetal Cell Testing & Church Teaching

Written from a Roman Catholic perspective, this excellent article helps clarify concerns about taking a COVID-19 vaccine tested on fetal cell lines.

Despite claims to the contrary from some circles, the Church has never taught that medicine being tested on fetal cell lines is a significant enough moral issue to skip that medicine. I wrote this up in a semi-academic piece that covers a lot of details but I want to offer a summary for readers here.

The Church has clearly taught in her ordinary magisterium that one may reject a vaccine grown on fetal cell lines, but in so doing, she avoided saying a vaccine—or any other medicine—merely tested on fetal cell lines was a sufficient reason to skip that medicine.

One can hold the theological opinion that this is sufficient grounds, but the Church asks theologians to clearly distinguish their theological opinions from Church teaching.

As a former Roman Catholic, I disagree with much of that Church’s teaching. However, I am in full agreement with them regarding issues involving the sanctity of life.

It is not my place to tell you how to decide regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. But I encourage you to read this article and consider reading the more in-depth piece it links to.

Oregon Spends $80K To Push Critical Race Theory On State Employees

On the heels of deadly Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots last summer, Democrats running the state of Oregon funneled close to $80,000 in taxpayer dollars to the state’s annual left-wing indoctrination conference for state employees.

The title of the article and the brief quote require no additional comments.

Don’t Let Religious Liberty Claims Mask Bad Faith Arguments

When threats to religious liberty are real, this article provides helpful insight.

Religious liberty is too important to let it get misused. It’s not a waiver to avoid all inconveniences in life or, worse, a tool to make political statements. For religious liberty to survive political and legal scrutiny in the future, we must safeguard exemptions against abuse. We can’t let appeals to shared faith or shared “enemies” mask bad faith arguments that undermine our religious liberty.

  1. It blows my mind to think that there are people out there who don’t see anything wrong with boys competing in girls’ sports. To say it defies common sense is the understatement of the century.

Parents who encourage their little children to become something other than their biological selves should be arrested for child abuse. In the business world I see a new trend where people are listing pronouns in their email signature blocks i.e., him/his/he. When I receive an email form someone who does that, I don’t respond. It’s their right I suppose, however, it is my right to not engage with those who insult my intelligence.

Your turn, please let me know your thoughts on this post. Thanks!
