Culture of Death

Culture of Death – Abortion News

The Culture of Death is an apt characterization of our world and as Christians, we are called to resist and speak out against every attempt to undermine the sanctity of life.

That is why every week I share articles, essays, and posts from around the internet of interest to those who care about the value of human life from conception to natural death.

This weekly post will inform the reader on a variety of bioethics issues, including abortion, assisted suicide & euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, genetic engineering, biotechnology, and more facets of the culture of death.

The Culture of Death and the Demise of Roe—Liberal States Respond

There is a strong possibility that the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade. That possibility is causing legislators in left-leaning states to up the ante by passing increasingly radical abortion laws. Most of the suggested reading in this week’s post address this unfortunate trend.

Colorado Law That Gov Polis Signed for Abortions Up to Birth Could Allow Infanticide Up to 28 Days

Colorado joins the states of Maryland and California in legalizing infanticide. Now, the legislation doesn’t use that word, but the intent is clear.

When Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a radical pro-abortion bill into law Monday, he also may have allowed newborn babies to be killed in infanticide.

The new law declares abortion to be a “fundamental right” in Colorado and denies all rights and legal protections to any “fertilized egg, embryo or fetus” up to birth. It also prohibits cities and municipalities from banning abortions through local ordinances such as others have done through the Sanctuary City for the Unborn movement.

On Wednesday, however, editors of The Denver Gazette warned that the law goes beyond allowing unborn babies to be aborted for any reason up to birth.

It also creates “ambiguity regarding infants killed post-delivery by cause or neglect,” they wrote. “Polis issued a signing statement saying the law does no such thing, but he’s probably wrong.”

Under the law, state and local officials are prohibited from regulating or restricting any form of “reproductive health care,” including “postnatal and delivery care” – in other words, after the baby is born.

Colorado is one of the few states with no limits on abortions, and abortionists there openly advertise abortions in the third trimester. In 2020, state voters rejected a ballot measure that would have protected viable, pain-capable unborn babies by banning late-term abortions after 22 weeks of pregnancy.

The Most Radical Abortion Law in the Nation

Colorado’s new abortion law sets a new standard for the culture of death. Here is some more about this attack on the unborn and newly born.

Colorado’s new law doesn’t merely allow abortion of viable babies, for any reason, until crowning; it makes eugenic arguments about the “social, moral, and economic benefits” of not having children, as if any law or regulation compels anyone to do so. The debate, lest it be repeated, is over when life is worth protecting. According to Colorado, which has no fetal-protection laws, either, a baby is never considered a life — so you can stop playing them that Baby Mozart.

Colorado’s new maximalist law not only ignores scientific and moral questions surrounding viability — which even Casey and Roe dealt with — it preventatively ensures that a “fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under the laws of the state,” stripping the unborn of any legal protection, in any circumstance. (Yes, third-trimester abortions are “rare.” Only around 10,000 of them are performed every year. So not rare enough. Warren Hern has been aborting completely viable babies in Boulder for decades; and surely, with even fewer restrictions, there will be another degenerate to take his place when he’s gone.)

The Colorado law also conflates the termination of an inconvenient life with a “fundamental right to use or refuse contraception,” a privilege no one is challenging. Treating abortion as if it holds the same societal cost and moral weight as buying a condom at CVS demonstrates the frivolous attitude the Left has taken, despite the law’s perfunctory pablum about it being a “serious decision” that should “remain between a person, their doctor, and their faith.”

California Assembly Committee Passes Bill That Would Legalize Infanticide

Not to be outdone by Colorado, California’s proposed abortion legislation may be even more deadly for unborn and newly born children.

According to the California Family Council, the “perinatal death” language in the bill would exempt mothers who kill their newborn babies from prosecution.

As currently written, attorney Susan Arnall, of the California-based Right to Life League, said the bill would allow abortionists like the infamous Kermit Gosnell to murder newborns without consequences.

“In California under AB 2223, former Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who murdered three infants born alive after botched abortions, could not be prosecuted,” Arnall said. “And incredibly, someone like Gosnell who helped a California mother kill her newborn after birth will actually have a cause of action to sue police for investigating the matter if AB 2223 becomes law.”

Illinois Lawmakers Works to Protect Illinois Abortionists Who Commit Illegal Abortions Elsewhere

Illinois is consistent in staying in step with the culture of death. Preparing for the reversal of Roe v. Wade, the state’s lawmakers want to make sure they protect native abortionists from punishment for performing abortions in other states where there are restrictions.

Illinois lawmakers recently advanced legislation that would make it easier for abortionists to evade accountability. According to Capitol News Illinois, the proposed law aims to protect abortionists who work in multiple states from facing disciplinary action in Illinois for breaking abortion-related laws in states with abortion restrictions.

Will Your State Protect Babies from Abortion When Roe Is Overturned? Read This to Find Out.

This post lets you know whether your state will protect the unborn when Roe v. Wade is gone.

Why is this important? Because when the Court overturns Roe, abortion becomes a state issue.

But what happens if Roe v. Wade is overturned? Most Americans don’t know that if Roe is overturned in Dobbs, it will merely send the abortion issue back to the states. This means states will become a battleground for pro-life and pro-abortion legislation. Up until now, Planned Parenthood v. Casey said states may regulate, but not prohibit, abortion before the unborn baby is viable, over halfway through pregnancy. For many states, this isn’t enough. They want to go further.

Is your state ready for Roe to go?

New Bills to Legalize Infanticide

Additional insight from the Human Life Review.

These bills would permit anyone to kill a baby up to one month old, either by act or omission, and completely escape any accountability. The horrific Kermit Gosnell approach of strangling newborns or leaving them to die on a shelf, would be perfectly legal in California and in Maryland. We are back to the barbaric ancient world, where unwanted children were exposed in the woods and left to die. Since the Father of Lies always relies on his favorite tricks, the bills have deliberately and perversely deceptive names.

The Maryland bill is called the “Pregnant Person’s Freedom Act of 2022”. Note the trendy redefinition of “woman” into “pregnant person”, and the exclusion of the unborn baby from being a “person”.

The California bill is an amendment to the “Reproductive Privacy Act”. Odd, since the purpose of abortion and infanticide is to terminate the results of reproduction, but they certainly would hide murder behind a veil of privacy. As if that weren’t enough to shock the conscience, a look through California and Maryland law reveals all sorts of provisions that are aimed at enhancing perinatal health and reducing infant mortality. So if the baby is wanted, the states will move mountains to help her. If, not, the state will stand by indifferently while she is murdered.

Study Confirms Legalizing Abortion Doesn’t Save Women’s Lives

Some facts that counter a mantra of the culture of death.

A new study from an University of Oxford researcher disputes claims that legalizing abortion saves women’s lives.

Abortion activists frequently bring up women dying as a reason to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions across the world. They argue that women will die from self-induced and back alley abortions, and link high maternal mortality rates to American states that are working to ban abortions.

Democrats are the Party of Abortions Up to Birth and Sexually Exploiting Children

In 2006 journalist Ramesh Ponnuru published The Party of Death: The Democrats, the Media, the Courts, and the Disregard for Human Life. Sixteen years later, the Democrat Party is even more entrenched in the culture of death.

It’s clear that the Left has decided on an overall strategy about how to handle the unpleasant topics of partial-birth abortion, infanticide, and fetal tissue research—give vague answers and change the subject as quickly as possible. They know that they are in an uncomfortable position because even most “pro-choice” Americans do not support late-term abortion and all that it entails. Yet progressives still cannot bring themselves to say anything that might be construed as a concession to the pro-life cause, so they find themselves indirectly defending infanticide, as HHS Secretary Becerra’s most recent comments illustrate and as former Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s 2019 comments most infamously exposed.

But it’s not just unborn babies that the Left is choosing to sacrifice at the altar of progressivism. It’s also clear that the Biden administration won’t lift a finger to protect minors who are struggling with gender dysphoria from being pushed into taking drugs to block normal puberty, taking cross-sex hormones, and undergoing gender reassignment surgery. During Wednesday’s hearing, Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.) asked Becerra, “Is it child abuse to perform a sex change operation on a 12-year-old child or younger?”

Stay strong in your opposition to the culture of death. Support life from conception to natural death.

11 Rescue those being led away to death hold back those staggering toward slaughter. 12 If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done? (Proverbs 24:11–12 ESV)
